On August 13, 2026, the Commonwealth posted the electric companies’ raw interconnection data through July. National Grid, Eversource East, and Eversource West filed July 2026 workbooks. Unitil’s file in that drop is June. The index lives on Mass.gov’s Utility Interconnection in Massachusetts page, the same page that lists the monthly workshop calendar.
That is not a press conference. It is the closest thing Massachusetts has to a public queue thermometer for distributed generation. If you are promising PTO dates on National Grid or Eversource jobs, you should have opened those workbooks before you sent the last proposal.
What the August 13 drop actually is
The companies file monthly interconnection reports around the 15th. Mass.gov then posts the raw sets. The August 13 package is the July cycle. A prior drop on July 30 covered June (and a late batch of May). If your operations review still cites a spring workbook, you are managing from old holds.
Use the files the way a PM uses them, not the way a reporter uses them. Filter to your process track. Simplified is not Expedited. Eversource East is not Eversource West. A group-study row is not a 10 kW inverter. Count days in completeness, days in screening, days waiting on the customer, and days waiting on a meter. Those four buckets explain more late PTOs than “the utility is slow.”
Hosting capacity maps sit on the same Mass.gov page: Eversource East and West, National Grid’s Massachusetts System Data Portal, Unitil. The monthly workbook tells you what already happened. The map tells you what the next application is walking into. Open both. A green map polygon next to a July row full of witness-test waits is still a slow job.
The workshop dates that are still useful
Eversource West held an Expedited / Standard session on August 19. The next posted Eversource date is September 9, Eversource East Simplified. November 4 is WMA Simplified. December 9 is Eversource East Expedited / Standard. Registration for those sessions still goes through the Eversource emails listed on the Mass.gov calendar.
IIRG’s next listed meeting is September 23, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. That group is where D.P.U. 26-57 and the flexible interconnection work keep showing up. If you send people to only the utility seminars, you miss the tariff-change conversation. If you send people to only IIRG, you miss the portal clicks that actually complete an application.
Tariffs on the same page were stamp-approved April 27, 2026. National Grid’s Massachusetts interconnection documents currently point at M.D.P.U. 1632 effective May 1, 2026. Use those exhibits, not a 2024 PDF from a shared drive.
How this changes a live interconnection application
Completeness still starts the clock. An incomplete application does not. If July data in your territory shows a pile of customer-hold days, look at your own deficiency rate before you blame DG. Account number mismatches, generic disconnect notes, and storage left off the one-line are still the usual reasons. We wrote the fix list in incomplete interconnection applications.
Permission to operate remains the written interconnect authorization. PTO, PPO, and permit to operate are that email or letter. July’s average days-to-authorization is a planning input. It is not a guarantee you can put in a sales deck without a range.
If the workbook shows meter delays in a specific area, tell the homeowner that before the inspector is booked. A passed electrical inspection without a meter is not PTO. Do not flip the AC disconnect because the town signed the card.
Compare July to June on the same company before you change a crew calendar. One month of ugly Standard numbers can be three large studies, not a new regional freeze. Three months of rising customer-hold days is your package. Share the filtered rows with sales so they stop quoting a statewide average that does not exist in the file.
Permit clock vs interconnection clock
The Mass.gov page is interconnection. The building department is still the AHJ. Boston and Worcester do not post these workbooks. Pull the town set on its own calendar. Guides: Massachusetts permit requirements, MA interconnection checklist, Boston, Worcester.
- Put the August 13 workbooks in the shared folder and date the filename. Do not overwrite June.
- Send one PM to the September 9 Eversource East Simplified session.
- Rebuild any proposal that used a pre-May 1, 2026 fee table.
- Match permit design and interconnection to the same SKUs.
- If the installed array moved, upload as-builts before you open a DG inquiry about PTO.
Athol will keep Massachusetts packets on M.D.P.U. 1632 forms and will treat the July workbooks as the current public baseline until September’s drop lands. PE stamps when the drawing needs a Massachusetts PE. Statewide: Massachusetts solar design services. More on the blog.
