Commercial and utility solar design
Commercial and utility work covers the jobs where the permit clock and the interconnection clock run at the same time and neither one waits for you. Larger arrays mean more engineering review, more equipment coordination, and a longer document set.
What changes at commercial scale
A 500 kW rooftop is not a large residential job. Service entrance capacity, transformer limits, and utility protection requirements start driving the design, and the AHJ often reviews structural and electrical separately.
Ground mounts add civil questions: access roads, drainage, setbacks, and sometimes wetlands or zoning review that runs on its own schedule.
What you receive
Full document set
Civil, structural, and electrical sheets with the calculations and cut sheets a commercial plan reviewer expects.
PE coordination
Sealed structural and electrical review from an engineer licensed in the state where the job sits.
Utility package
Application, one-lines, and protection details kept in agreement with the permitted set.
Two clocks: permit and utility
On commercial work the utility study can outlast the building permit by months. Filing the interconnection application early, with numbers that will not change, is usually the difference between an on-time energization and a stalled asset.
We keep the permitted drawings and the interconnection application in agreement so a mid-study equipment change does not restart the review.
States we support
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut are the core desk, with New York and Pennsylvania on the same queue. National Grid, Eversource, and Rhode Island Energy each run their own commercial process with their own document expectations.
FAQs
Is a PE stamp always required? For commercial work, effectively yes. Plan on sealed structural and electrical sheets.
Do you run the utility study? No. The utility performs the study. We prepare the application and the drawings it depends on, and we respond to study comments.
What about battery storage? Storage changes the one-line and the protection scheme. Tell us early, because retrofitting storage into a filed application is expensive.
Start a package
Send the site, the target system size, the service details, and the utility. Scope, PE needs, and a realistic schedule are confirmed before drafting begins.
