Solar permit design

Permit design from Athol Energy gives production installers a plan set a reviewer can approve without guessing: site and roof layout, attachment details, an electrical single-line that matches the bill of materials, and a revision log that tracks every change. Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut are the core desk. New York and Pennsylvania run on the same queue, so a multi-state crew does not have to split vendors mid-week.

What a permit set includes

A residential or small commercial package normally carries the site plan, roof plan, attachment layout with dimensions, the single-line with conductor and conduit notes, equipment cut sheets, and placard notes written for the AHJ that will actually see the job.

Structural and electrical notes are written for that jurisdiction rather than copied from a national template. When a town wants a specific detail called out on the sheet, it goes on the sheet.

What you receive

Sheets crews can build from

Labels, clearances, and attachment callouts sized for the roof in front of the crew, not just a drawing that looks finished on screen.

Scope in writing

You know which sheets are included, what the AHJ usually asks for, and whether a PE seal is required or optional before drafting starts.

Reserved bandwidth

Volume partners can hold weekly drafting capacity ahead of the spring and fall install windows.

Process and turnaround

Intake is one short, complete file: survey or site photos, equipment list, AHJ name, utility, and the week trucks need to roll. Incomplete intakes get a checklist instead of a stalled draft.

Turnaround depends on jurisdiction complexity and whether a licensed engineer has to seal the set. Rush lanes exist when a failed inspection or a utility deadline puts revenue at risk.

When comments come back, each note is mapped to a specific drawing change so the resubmittal answers the reviewer item by item.

States and AHJs

Massachusetts is the volume core, and Boston and Worcester both carry their own checklists. Rhode Island work runs on Rhode Island Energy timelines. Connecticut jobs more often stall on municipal review than on utility review.

New York packages follow the Standardized Interconnection Requirements plus local DOB or AHJ rules. Pennsylvania varies by township, which is why Philadelphia and Pittsburgh get separate permit notes.

FAQs

Do we always need a PE stamp? No. Some towns accept an unstamped set for straightforward residential work. When the town, fire district, or utility asks for a seal, we coordinate PE stamping on the same set.

Wet seal or digital seal? Whichever the jurisdiction accepts. The certificate stays filed with the drawing set.

Can a sales layout become a permit set? Yes. Early layouts from sales proposals are drawn to upgrade rather than to be redrawn.

Start a package

Send the AHJ, the utility, the equipment list, and the target install week. One desk owns the drawings, the PE coordination, and the interconnection file through PTO (permission to operate).
