Solar Permit Design & Engineering for East Coast Installers
Athol Energy prepares AHJ-ready plan sets, coordinates the PE seal when a town or utility requires one, and files interconnection paperwork that matches the drawings. Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut are the core desk, with New York and Pennsylvania on the same queue.
Athol Energy is built for production-focused solar contractors who need accurate plan sets, not guesswork.
Why installers choose Athol Energy
Built for production crews
Packages carry the labels, clearances, and notes a field supervisor can build from, not just drawings that look finished on screen.
Explicit scope
You know what is included, what the AHJ typically asks for, and whether a PE stamp is required or optional.
Predictable capacity
Retainers and volume lanes reserve drafting bandwidth before weather windows and sales spikes hit.
What we deliver
A residential or small commercial package normally carries the site plan, roof plan, attachment layout with dimensions, the electrical single-line with conductor and conduit notes, equipment cut sheets, and placard notes written for the AHJ that will see the job.
From there the work branches by need: permit design, PE stamping, interconnection, as-built drawings, and commercial and utility design for larger arrays.
QA catches missing dimensions, conflicting callouts, and incomplete cut sheets before release, which is where most resubmittals are prevented.
How our process works
Kickoff is simple: share the site survey, equipment list, AHJ name, utility, and any HOA or zoning constraints. Incomplete intakes get a short checklist so drafting does not stall.
Turnaround depends on stamp needs and AHJ complexity. Rush options exist when an inspection fails or an interconnection window is closing.
AHJ comments are mapped item by item to drawing changes, so the resubmittal answers the reviewer directly instead of restarting the conversation.
Where we support projects
The core markets are Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, plus New York and Pennsylvania.
City notes for the markets we see most are listed under service areas. Local rules matter, which is why a national template usually fails a municipal checklist.
Practical FAQs
Do we always need a PE stamp? No. Some towns accept an unstamped set for straightforward residential work. When the town, fire district, or utility asks for a seal, we coordinate it on the same set.
Wet seal or digital seal? Whichever the jurisdiction accepts. The certificate stays filed with the drawing set.
What is PTO? PTO is permission to operate, the utility approval that comes after inspection and lets the system legally run. A building permit alone does not energize a site.
How we protect install dates
Failed inspections idle trucks and burn trust. Review here focuses on constructability and checklist completeness before you submit.
Assumptions are documented early so responsibility stays clear between survey, design, and field. The goal is approval on the first or second pass.
Need plan sets that hold up to municipal and utility review?
