Solar PE stamping

PE stamping puts a licensed professional engineer on the sheets when a town, fire district, or utility will not accept an unstamped set. Athol Energy coordinates the seal with the plan set it belongs to, so the stamped drawings and the interconnection application tell the same story.

When a PE stamp is required

Requirements are local. Many Northeast towns accept an unstamped residential set, then ask for a structural or electrical seal once the array crosses a size threshold, sits on unusual roof framing, or lands in a high wind or snow zone. Commercial and utility scale work almost always needs one.

The cheap version of this problem is knowing before submittal. Scope review flags whether a seal is required, optional, or likely to be requested, so the stamp is not a surprise two days before an inspection.

What the review covers

Structural

Attachment spacing, member capacity, and the wind and snow loads for the actual site, checked against the racking manufacturer's tables.

Electrical

Conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, rapid shutdown, and labeling against the code edition the AHJ enforces.

Constructability

Whether a crew can actually build what is drawn, which is where most resubmittals are prevented.

Seals and certificates

Jurisdictions differ on what they accept. We use the method yours accepts, wet or digital, and keep the certificate filed with the drawing set so nobody hunts for it during closeout.

A seal is an engineering judgment on a specific set of drawings. If the equipment or the layout changes in the field, the record set has to change with it, which is what as-built drawings are for.

States we seal in

Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut are the core desk, with New York and Pennsylvania on the same queue. Licensure is state by state, so the engineer who signs is licensed where the job sits.

FAQs

Is Athol Energy NABCEP certified? No. NABCEP is an installer and educator credential, and it does not replace a professional engineer seal. When a town asks for a stamp, it wants a licensed PE on the sheets, which is what we coordinate.

Can you stamp drawings we already have? Sometimes. An engineer can only seal work they have reviewed and can stand behind, so expect a review pass and possibly markups before a seal.

How fast can a seal happen? It depends on scope and whether the set is complete. Rush lanes exist when a failed inspection is holding a crew.

Start a stamped set

Send the plan set or the survey, the equipment list, the AHJ, and the target submit date. Scope and timing are confirmed before review begins.
