Solar interconnection packages

Interconnection is the utility's approval to connect and energize, and it runs on a separate track from the building permit. Athol Energy prepares the application and the diagrams so the utility reviewer and the municipal reviewer see the same system.

What a package includes

A package normally carries the application form, a site plan, a single-line or three-line diagram showing the point of interconnection, cut sheets for inverters and disconnects, and the operating and labeling notes the utility asks for.

Most rejections are boring: an address that does not match the meter record, an inverter model that changed after the application went in, or a diagram that disagrees with the permitted set.

Utilities we file with

National Grid and Eversource cover most Massachusetts work. Rhode Island Energy handles Rhode Island. Connecticut runs through Eversource and United Illuminating. New York follows the Standardized Interconnection Requirements, and Pennsylvania varies by utility territory.

Each has its own forms, thresholds, and study triggers. Filing on the wrong track costs weeks.

Permit, inspection, and PTO

A building permit is not permission to operate. After the electrical inspection, the utility still has to issue PTO (permission to operate, sometimes called PPO or permit to operate) before the customer's system can legally run.

Keeping the installed reality, the permitted drawings, and the application in agreement is what stops PTO from becoming a second project.

Where we work

Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut are the core desk, plus New York and Pennsylvania. Cross-border crews keep one intake process while each application follows its own utility's rules.

FAQs

Do you submit on our behalf? We prepare the package and can file where the utility portal allows a designated preparer. Many installers prefer to submit under their own account, which works fine.

What triggers a study? System size relative to the circuit, mostly. Small residential systems usually clear a screen, while larger systems can trigger a supplemental or full study.

Can you fix a rejected application? Yes. Send the rejection notice, since it usually names the problem plainly.

Start an application

Send the address, the meter number, the equipment list, and the permitted drawings if they exist.
