Unitil solar interconnection is where recycled Eversource sketches go to wait. Fitchburg-area accounts do not live in PowerClerk East and they do not live in National Grid’s 1632 portal. If the bill says Unitil, the application, the hosting-capacity look-up, and the authorization letter all say Unitil. Athol Energy will not file a Worcester Exhibit A on a Fitchburg meter and hope the company translates it.
We still build a Massachusetts permit set around that filing: site plan, roof plan, attachment layout with dimensions, electrical single-line with conductor and conduit notes, cut sheets, placards. 20,000+ residential projects and 200 MW+ designed with 30+ installer partners does not make Unitil a footnote. Unitil solar interconnection package we actually file
Unitil’s public apply page tells you to start with the Massachusetts interconnection hosting capacity map, then create or sign into the Interconnection Program Portal, where you can save progress and upload documents. The form asks questions and selects the application path. That is not permission to skip a one-line. Upload the same SLD the town will see. If SKUs are not frozen, wait. Parallel filing with two inverter families is how both the city and Unitil email you on the same afternoon.
The hosting capacity map is explicit: informational, non-binding, may miss queued projects, does not replace an application, and does not capture every constraint (protection issues need analysis). Do not promise a customer “the map was green” as a PTO date. File. Let Unitil review. Athol’s interconnection work is that filing, tied to permit design.
What the drawings still have to show
Show service, meters, disconnect if installed, inverter SKUs, AC kW, rapid shutdown, and any battery. Show production metering if SMART needs it. Unitil SMART 3.0 has its own company-specific tariff after the July 8, 2026 DPU approvals. A Final SQ path does not rewrite the interconnection exhibits. If the SMART application lists one inverter and Unitil lists another, one of those desks will bounce you. Freeze SKUs across CLEAResult, the town, and Unitil.
Do not paste “Eversource Simplified 25 kW, $0 fee” into a Unitil proposal. Read Unitil’s tariff and the portal. D.P.U. 26-57’s joint CSM proposal listed $225 for Unitil Simplified applicants with a $1,450 benefit threshold, not the $10,000 Eversource/National Grid figure. If that fee is in force when you quote, it is interconnection money, and the cap on what it covers is tighter. Town clock vs Unitil clock
Fitchburg-area AHJs are not Unitil. The building permit is still 780 CMR and 527 CMR as the town enforces them. File both clocks after SKUs freeze. Statewide sheet lists are on Massachusetts solar permit requirements and Massachusetts solar design services. Unitil still wants Unitil uploads. If the town cuts modules for a fire path, change the portal the same day.
Unitil’s steps-to-interconnection page points at Massachusetts Standards for Interconnection of Distributed Generation, metering requirements, and a rule that you do not energize until written authorization. That sentence is the whole closeout. A town sticker is not authorization. If the array moved, as-built before you ask why the letter is missing. What we will not mix
We will not mix Unitil with Springfield Eversource West because both are “western-ish.” We will not mix Unitil with an MLP. We will not use National Grid commissioning memos as Unitil closeout. We will not tell a customer they are on Simplified because a Boston job was. The portal’s questions exist because the path depends on this service, this kW, this inverter listing. Answer them from the SLD, not from memory of another EDC.
Storage and wholesale distribution service for standalone ESS are Unitil topics with their own Massachusetts pages. If the job is PV plus battery, say so. If it is standalone storage, do not file it as a rooftop Simplified solar clone. [CONFIRM AS OF 2026-09-19]
Fitchburg-area AHJs, SMART, and meter sockets
Unitil solar interconnection still sits next to a town building department that has never heard of the Interconnection Program Portal. Fitchburg, surrounding Unitil towns, and the AHJ name on the permit are clock 1. Unitil is clock 2. Written authorization is clock 3. If the town fire path cuts two modules, the portal kW drops the same day. If the town wants a PE on unusual framing, that seal goes on the AHJ set. Do not tell Unitil a PE stamped a placeholder sketch you never coordinated.

Metering requirements are on Unitil’s own page, not in a National Grid commissioning memo. If they want a specific socket or production meter, draw it. If they want settings documentation, upload it. Hosting capacity maps will not tell you the socket is rusted. Photograph the service. If a service upgrade is in play, the town electrical permit grows, and the portal questions will route you off a naive Simplified assumption. Answer those questions from the SLD.

Do not call us to ask Unitil why a hosting map is green. File the application. Keep the AHJ set honest. Keep the authorization letter in the folder before anyone moves a disconnect handle.
We will not recycle Eversource East fee tables onto Unitil proposals, especially if 26-57’s $1,450 benefit threshold is the live number. That sentence belongs in the quote, not in a title block the building inspector has to ignore. The inspector wants inches. The portal wants exhibits. Both want the same inverter model. If a Unitil notice asks for a wiring diagram you thought was close enough, send the dated revision that matches the town set, not a sketch from an Eversource job with the logo swapped. Photograph the meter socket before you promise a completion week, because a rusted socket in Fitchburg delays authorization the same way it does in Worcester, only the letterhead is different. Keep the written authorization in the folder before anyone moves the disconnect handle on a Unitil account.

Can we use an Eversource sketch if we change the logo?

Does Unitil need Schedule Z?

Send the bill that says Unitil, service photos, equipment list, and AHJ. Use contact. The next unitil solar interconnection upload should match the Fitchburg-area town set, including the inverter on the purchase order, not the inverter from last quarter’s Eversource job. If a portal notice is already open, forward it with the current SLD so we answer the Unitil question instead of redrawing an Eversource template by habit. Name the EDC on every sheet, including as-builts, so the Fitchburg inspector and the Unitil reviewer see the same company when the array has moved an inch.
