Quincy electrical comments are specific. The repeats we map are boring, which is why they keep winning:
- Inverter continuous output vs conductor ampacity, including the 125 percent factor the electrician is expecting to see written, not implied.
- Backfed breaker size vs bus rating, with the 120 percent allowance called out only if you are actually using it.
- AC disconnect shown as “if required” instead of a real device, location, and rating.
- Rapid shutdown equipment named on a cut sheet but missing from the one-line.
- Production meter or SMART meter socket omitted while the interconnection portal asked for it.
- Grounding electrode conductor and array bonding treated as a typical from another town.
If Quincy asked about item 3, revise item 3. Do not also swap module SKUs “while you are in there” unless you want a second round. Freeze equipment before the first upload. Write the numbers the inspector will megger
Conductor and conduit notes belong on the SLD, not in an email. List circuit, size, type, and raceway. If you upsize for voltage drop on a long garage run, say so. If DC homeruns change between combiners, show both. A note that says “per NEC” is how you earn the same comment twice. Service details need a small elevation or a clear one-line symbol: main breaker, bus rating, backfed breaker position, and whether the backfed breaker is at the opposite end of the bus. If the existing panel cannot take the backfeed, draw the replacement or the line-side tap you actually intend. Do not leave “panel TBD.” Quincy will not bid your TBD for you.
Rapid shutdown has to be findable. If it is module-level, name the MLPE. If it is a string-level device at the array, show it on the roof plan and on the SLD. Placard text should match what the electrician will stick at the service. Copying a California directory onto a Quincy three-family is a labeling comment, not a shortcut.
Match the utility sketch on the same day
Confirm the EDC from the customer bill before you draw the meter socket. Quincy is commonly Eversource Eastern Massachusetts (former NSTAR). How we resubmit without restarting the file
You send the comment PDF, the last submitted set, and any field photos the inspector already took. We number a response letter to match Quincy’s numbers. Each line points at a sheet and a cloud. If they asked for conductor size, the cloud is on the conductor, not on the north arrow. If they asked for a cut sheet, the model number is in the letter and in the bill of materials.
Do not submit a full new project as “revision 2” with a different inverter and no clouds. Reviewers look for their own words. Give them their words back, answered. That is also how you protect the install week. A clean electrical resubmittal is faster than a philosophical email about how other towns accept the original.
PE stamps stay scoped. If Quincy did not ask for a sealed electrical sheet, we will not add one to create the appearance of seriousness. Roof plan still matters to the electrical inspector
Homeruns that block a 527 CMR 1.00 fire path become electrical comments in the field even if the SLD is pretty. Keep 36 in. access strips clear. Show junction boxes. If the inverter is in a basement, the directory at the service has to say basement. If the AC disconnect is on the exterior, give it a dimension from the meter, not “near service.”
Cut sheets: inverter, MLPE or shutdown device, meter socket if you specified one, and the module if the electrical reviewer asked. Incomplete PDFs are still incomplete when the roof plan is perfect. Our QA looks for missing dimensions, conflicting callouts, and cut sheets that do not match SKUs. Those three misses are the resubmittal factory.
A building permit is not permission to operate. After inspection, the EDC still issues PTO. If conductors changed in the field, the as-built SLD has to change before you ask for that letter. Do not energize on a Quincy sticker plus an old one-line.
Field failures that start as drawing misses
Quincy inspections fail when the directory at the service does not match the basement inverter, when the AC disconnect is on the opposite wall from the dimensioned elevation, or when the backfed breaker is not in the slot the SLD promised. Those are drawing problems that became truck problems. Photograph the panel interior at intake, including bus stamping if you can read it. Can we leave the disconnect as optional?
Not if Quincy or Eversource is expecting a visible, lockable, accessible device. Pick it, rate it, locate it. Optional language is a comment.
Do you need the original comment letter?
Yes. Verbal summaries of “they hated the wires” waste a revision cycle. PDF or it did not happen.
