National Grid MA solar interconnection is a calendar with business days, not a vibe. If you quote “two weeks to PTO” because a Worcester job got lucky, you will miss Lowell. M.D.P.U. 1632 effective May 1, 2026 is the document set the company is pointing at. Use those exhibits. Then keep the line diagram honest when the town fire path cuts modules. The tariff clock does not save a mismatched SKU.

National Grid MA solar interconnection Simplified clocks
Under 1632, Simplified radial is for listed inverter-based facilities 25 kW or less that match the service configuration and pass feeder screens. [CONFIRM AS OF 2026-09-19] Older public pages still talk about 15 kW single-phase. Do not mix those editions in one proposal. Read the May 1, 2026 tariff. If the service is three-phase and you stacked single-phase inverters, you may not be on Simplified just because AC kW is small.
Public “Submitting MA Simplified Application” guidance describes this sequence after you submit: National Grid has 10 business days to review documents. Issues put the case on hold with an email. If clean, the case moves to screening. The tariff gives 15 business days for simplified screening. Then Conditional Approval (permission to construct) and a 365 calendar-day window to upload completion documents. Then 10 business days to review completion docs, 10 business days to install the meter if the site is ready, then an authority-to-interconnect email, often the next business day after a successful meter set. Dogs, blocked meters, rusty sockets, and missing labels stop the meter clock. Those are field problems, not tariff mysteries.
What we upload on day one
National Grid’s MA interconnection documents page lists Exhibit A (Simplified application) under 1632, retail customer agreement when the billing name is not the system owner, landowner consent when needed, ESS questionnaire for batteries, line diagram, site plan, cut sheets, Schedule Z, Schedule A as applicable. Use the 5/1/2026 versions. A 2019 completion checklist sitting next to a 2026 Exhibit A is how you fail closeout later. ISO-NE ride-through requirements still apply to inverter-based PV 100 kW or less with applications on or after June 1, 2018. Put the settings on the diagram.
The line diagram has to show actual equipment. Main breaker, meters, disconnect if installed, inverter SKUs, kW. Do not write “MIN 60A.” If you revise, date the revision. The AHJ SLD from permit design should be the same story as Exhibit A. Athol’s interconnection desk will not file a 10 kW portal job against a 7.6 kW town set.
Holds, meters, and PTO
A hold email is a comment letter. Answer the deficiency. Do not upload a prettier roof plan if they asked about the disconnect. Do not chatter “please approve” without the missing cut sheet. If the town later changes module count, update the portal the same day. Two lists is two clocks reset.
Completion documents have their own Exhibit A2 certificate of completion under 1632, plus commissioning memos for SB vs SA inverters as the company currently lists. [CONFIRM AS OF 2026-09-19] If the array moved, as-builts go in before you ask why PTO is late. Athol’s as-built drawings exist for that. Authority to interconnect is the written email. That is PTO/PPO. The town sticker is not that email. Do not energize without it.
If D.P.U. 26-57’s $225 common system modification fee applies to Simplified applicants when you quote, it is interconnection cost on this EDC, with a published benefit threshold in the 26-57 materials ($10,000 for National Grid in the joint proposal table). What National Grid is not
National Grid Massachusetts is not Eversource East, not Unitil, not an MLP. Worcester, Lowell, and many central Massachusetts towns sit here. Confirm from the bill. Do not file 1632 on a Springfield Eversource West account. Statewide context is on Massachusetts solar design services. The portal still wants Exhibit A.
Payments after the application fee should wait for a company invoice to the PO Box on that invoice, per National Grid’s own process notes. Do not mail a guess. Time frames in the tariff are company business days. Missed customer response windows can cancel an application. Put a human on the email, not a shared inbox nobody reads.
Holds that are really identity problems
National Grid MA solar interconnection holds often are not technical. They are Exhibit H because the LLC on the contract is not the name on the bill, or Exhibit I because the landlord is not in the portal. Put billing name, system owner, and landowner on the AHJ cover so the town and the EDC are not inventing identities. If the homeowner is the customer and the installer is not the owner, stop copying a third-party-owner template from a lease job. Wrong exhibit is a 10-business-day completeness loop you cannot buy your way out of with a prettier SLD.
ISO-NE ride-through settings still belong on the diagram for inverter-based PV in the size band the company has called out since June 1, 2018. If the commissioning memo is SB vs SA, use the memo the documents page currently lists. Do not send an SA memo on an SB inverter because that is what you had in the truck folder. [CONFIRM AS OF 2026-09-19] Settings mismatches are how completion review eats the 10 days and then some.
Meter set failures are physical. Rusty socket, no path, no label, dog in the yard. The tariff clock for meter install does not run while the site is blocked. Tell the superintendent the site has to look like the completion photos you uploaded. If you photographed a clear meter and then stored lumber in front of it, you created the delay. Label the disconnect the way the SLD named it. A field Sharpie that says “solar” when the diagram says a manufacturer and ampere rating is how the tech leaves a tag.
Worcester and Lowell share this EDC and do not share AHJs. Do not let a Worcester fire-path revision sit in the town folder while Grid still has the old kW. The 365-day completion window is not a reason to ignore a module cut for three months. SMART production meters still need to appear even if Exhibit A would have accepted a simpler sketch. Incentive desks and DG desks are different inboxes.
If D.P.U. 26-57 is collecting $225 on Simplified when you invoice the customer, show it as interconnection, not as a Worcester permit surcharge. Then still file 1632 exhibits, not an Eversource sketch with a Grid logo. PTO is the ATI email. The town sticker is not that email. Do not energize without it. Print the ATI into the job folder the same day it arrives so the superintendent is not guessing from a text message.

Can we install during completeness review?
Conditional approval is the construct permission. Installing earlier is how you explain a system to a company that has not screened it. Do not.
The meter tech left a tag. Now what?
Fix the socket, path, label, or dog, then request the return. The 10 business-day meter clock does not run while the site is unsafe or blocked.
Do we need Schedule Z on a simple house?
If you want the net-metering allocation the form covers, yes. Read the 1632 exhibit. Do not skip it because the SLD looked simple.
