Framingham residential review is note-driven. If the note block is empty, the reviewer invents questions. If the note block is a novel, they miss the one sentence that mattered. A framingham solar permit set should carry short, local AHJ notes that point at dimensions already drawn: fire-path widths, snow and wind criteria, lag hardware, and an electrical story that matches the EDC on the bill.

Framingham solar permit notes that belong on the sheets
Cover notes we actually keep:
- AHJ: Town of Framingham. Occupancy: one-family, two-family, or other, stated plainly.
- Code editions: 780 CMR, 527 CMR 1.00, 527 CMR 12.00 as enforced on the submit date. [CONFIRM AS OF 2026-09-19]
- Design criteria: ground snow load, wind speed, exposure, risk category for this site. No leftover Worcester numbers.
- Utility: named from the bill, plus Simplified vs Expedited if you already know the path.
- Equipment list: module, inverter, racking, shutdown, ESS if any, with model numbers that match cut sheets.
- PE status: seal not indicated, seal likely, or sealed, so nobody wonders in the field.
Those lines are useless if the roof plan has no widths. Notes point at drawings. They do not replace them. Statewide sheet lists live on Massachusetts solar permit requirements. Framingham still wants this town’s title block.
Roof notes that prevent ladder arguments
Fire-path note: two 36 in. gutter-to-ridge pathways on separate planes for one- and two-family dwellings, one street- or driveway-side, ridge setbacks 18 in. or 36 in. based on plan-view coverage, paths kept clear. Then dimension the paths. A note without a scaled strip is a caption. 527 CMR 1.00 is the statewide fire language. Confirm the edition Framingham is on. [CONFIRM AS OF 2026-09-19]
Attachment note: lag diameter, embedment, edge distance, rafter spacing from survey, flashing product. If you assumed spacing, say assumed. Expect a comment. Photograph bays. Missing dimensions are still the bounce even when the note is eloquent.
Snow and wind notes must match the racking table you attached. If they do not, the note is a conflict. Conflicting callouts are the second thing our QA hunts, after missing dimensions and incomplete cut sheets. Athol’s permit design pass is that hunt, not a grammar check.
Electrical notes that match the portal
Name the EDC from the bill. Framingham public sources conflict on Eversource vs National Grid, which is exactly why we do not guess in a note. [CONFIRM AS OF 2026-09-19] If it is Eversource, Simplified on the current public page is listed inverters 25 kW AC or less on qualifying radial service, with extra screens on networks. If it is National Grid, use M.D.P.U. 1632 exhibits effective May 1, 2026. The SLD note should list inverter SKU, AC kW, main breaker, and disconnect as real devices. “Per utility” is not a rating.
Rapid shutdown note: device name, initiation method, and where the firefighter reads the placard. Conductor note: sizes on the SLD, not “per NEC.” If SMART needs a production meter, the note and the one-line both show it. Athol’s interconnection file has to repeat those SKUs. Two stories is two comment letters.
Notes we refuse to put on the AHJ set
HOA paint colors, sales production guarantees, and SMART rate quotes do not belong in the Framingham building-department PDF. They confuse plan check. Keep them in a customer folder. Do not write “most Massachusetts towns require a PE” on a Framingham residential cover. A PE stamp is not always required. We coordinate PE stamping when this town or this roof asks. Do not copy Boston Short Form vs Long Form language. Do not copy Worcester Inspectional Services headers. Framingham is its own AHJ. Nearby MetroWest towns are also their own AHJs. Statewide framing is on Massachusetts solar design services.
Comments against the notes
If Framingham marks a note as missing, add the note and the dimension it should have pointed at. If they mark a conflict, pick one story and revise both the note and the drawing. A building permit is not PTO. After inspection, the EDC still writes permission to operate. If field lags skipped a rafter, as-built the layout and the notes together.

How Framingham notes fail in the field anyway
A framingham solar permit can pass plan check on notes and still fail inspection if the notes never made it onto the printed field set. Send revision 2 to the truck, not just to the portal. Superintendents should see the same fire-path widths the reviewer accepted. If your field tablet still has revision 0, the notes were theater.
We keep a short “inspector directory” note: where the AC disconnect is, where the inverter is, where rapid shutdown is initiated, and where the roof access path starts. That is not marketing. That is how a Framingham inspector uses a Saturday morning. If the inverter is in a detached garage, say detached garage. If the path is on the driveway plane, say driveway plane. Vague notes produce long phone calls.
Residential storage needs its own note block: listing, location, separation, smoke detection if the adopted rules require it, and a pointer to the ESS sheet. Massachusetts ESS guidance for one- and two-family dwellings has been updated in recent years; put the edition you used. MetroWest crews often run Framingham and adjacent towns in one week. That is when title blocks get mixed. A Natick snow number on a Framingham cover is a conflict even if both towns sit in the same weather pattern. Write this site’s criteria. Write this EDC. If the customer is on community electricity aggregation, say so only if it changes nothing for interconnection, because delivery and interconnection still run through the EDC on the bill. Aggregation is not a fourth AHJ. Do not turn it into a note that confuses plan check.
When comments arrive, quote the note you are changing. If Framingham said “clarify utility,” the new note names the EDC and the portal. If they said “clarify attachments,” the new note points at the lag map, which now has inches. Notes without new inches are how the same letter returns. Keep HOA screening language out of that revision unless they asked for it. Plan check is still a building-department clock, not a design-review board for shingle color. If the field set and the portal set drift by one note, print revision 3 and kill revision 2 on the tablet before Saturday inspection.
Installer questions on Framingham notes
Can we use a statewide typical note block?
As a starting list, yes. As the submitted text, no. Put Framingham, this occupancy, this EDC, this snow number.
Do batteries need extra notes?
Yes. Location, listing, separation, and shutoff. Draw the batteries. A note that says “ESS by others” on a residential wall is a comment. If the battery is on the truck this week, it is on the Framingham sheets this week, including the one-line and the cut sheet, not as a future placeholder.
What if the reviewer never reads notes?
Then the dimensions still have to work. Notes are backup. The tape on the roof is the test. Print the same note block the town accepted and put it in the truck folder so Saturday inspection is not reading revision 0 while the portal holds revision 2.
